One of the ingredients of 'Friars Balsam'
Extraction by steam distillation, made from unripe, sun-dried red fruit (peppercorns) of the plant
Properties:
Watery viscosity
Strong, sharp, spicy smell reminiscent of clove
Colour is light amber to yellow/green
Uses:
In treatment of pain relief and muscular aches
Rheumatism
For chills, colds, flu and fevers
Exhaustion
Coldness, both physical and emotional
As a nerve tonic
Increases flow of saliva, stimulating the appetite
Encourages peristalsis, tones the muscles of the colon, and acts as a general tonic for the digestive system
Other applications:
Use in the bath to sooth bruises
Blended in a base cream it can increase circulation to the skin
Warnings:
Can cause irritation to sensitive skin
NOT to be used during pregnancy
